Mean... soo.... mean
So many locks in the Noble Origin. Do they give a warrior a rogue sidekick? Oh, hell no. Eye... twitching.... | | 5:10 pm |
Not sure how many of you are going to understand why this is so funny to me, but... The default name I got for a Noble Human Male in Dragon Age is Aedan. Another spelling is Ayden From which I got Aydena. | | 4:33 pm |
Tycho of Penny Arcade made the following statement yesterday "I found it very strange that Elves and Dwarves (in Dragon Age) - though Dwarves more so - had no accent of any kind." to which I kind of blinked. They have US/Canadian accents. Noble (human) Fereldens have English accents. Orlaiseans have French accents. Antivans have Spanish accents. I was kind of :O that Tycho failed to notice that. | | Monday, November 30th, 2009 | | 11:54 am |
I am mixing a solution by hand, so I got time to surf a bit. I have seen this picture a couple times on Pundit Kitchen, but this is the most appropriate caption yet. see more Political PicturesRegulation length hair in regulation pony tail- check regulation LONG stride - check In stilleto heels - (*whimper, ow*) check Skirts barely long enough to cover the important bits - check. In general... ew. | | 8:15 am |
It was warm for Thanksgiving and the day after, but there was frost on my car this morning. *heavy sigh* | | Thursday, November 26th, 2009 | | 8:18 am |
*laments* I used to be able to recognize voices. I could, I really could. Now, I keep thinking the voice of Mouse (from the Mage Origin in Dragon Age) is the same voice as Martin from Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. And.... that's highly unlikely, since Martin was voiced by Sean Bean (you can even see that credit on IMDB) and there's NO Sean Bean in the credits for Dragon Age (nor, conversely, a credit for Mouse at IMDB) *sniff, sniff* I used to be able to recognize voices. | | Wednesday, November 25th, 2009 | | 11:59 am |
Let's see if I can get my train of thought down in some semblance of order. I got to thinking about a scene from a movie where a woman (VERY unhappy with some things she's recently had to do) is in a locked, metal cage that is subsequently submerged in water. When the hero tries to save her from drowning, she first tries to disuade him with gesture, gives up on that and goes to the back of the cage where she deliberately tries to take a breath. My thought on this was 'Could someone argue that was suicide?" On the one hand, drowning was certain in the next minute or so. On the other hand, DEATH is certain for everyone at some point. Could deliberately inducing drowning now instead of involantarily in 30 seconds be suicide? Obviously, some part of me says yes and some part of me says no, and so I am forced to look at my definition of 'suicide'. And it comes up nebulous in at least one particular. -> Is giving in gracefully to inevitable death a form of suicide? Is going peacefully to the executioner a kind of suicide? Is failing to fight a terminal illness, so you die 6 months sooner than you would if you fought it, a form of suicide? If the answers are yes, does that mean not desperately trying to find a way to make yourself immortal is a form of suicide? But if the answers are no.... what IS suicide? What difference between dying now, instead of 30 seconds from now? Or dying now, instead of a year from now? Or dying now, instead of 20, 40, 60 years from now? Is it a matter of degree? Where does one draw the line? | | 10:32 am |
Growing up on science fiction, especially short fiction, just HAS to have had it's effect on me. Let me give you an example. I hadn't read Isaac Asimov's "Eyes Do More Than See" ( http://graphics.stanford.edu/~tolis/toli/other/eyes.html ) in more than 15 years, but I still remembered it in a powerful way. Well enough to remember the 'punch line' (so to speak) without having to look it up. But look at it. Not only are there suggestions of godhood (energy being making matter in it's own image) but a powerful caution about what you have being precious and being careful what you give up for the sake of what you think you want/need. Because I am me and I start monologing to imaginary characters when I don't have anything better to think about, I started wondering what effect that story would have on, say, the characters from Dragon Age. The words 'heretic' and 'lunatic' came to mind. By the way, be very, very grateful I don't try to write fan fic. Srsly. (and I suddenly have an inkling for why I don't read it much....) | | Monday, November 23rd, 2009 | | 7:24 pm |
Reminder to self: When there aren't competent poeple behind those rogues, sometimes, the best way to position them... is to move the tank. Um, this post brought to you by being a caster in WoW for most of the last four years. "Positioning? What? Am I standing in the fire?" I mean, I totally grok LoS (and curse when the AI is too smart for that), but melee positioning? Kinda new. | | 2:20 pm |
Oh, no. The gaming world doesn't assume the gamer is male or anything. Just looked at the character studies for the various companions in Dragon Age (again, now I know more) and... um... *snicker* You get glimpses of the sex scenes for Morrigan and Leliana (with a male), and a really short bit of Zevran (with a red headed female elf. go figure) but not Alistair. Poor Alistair. Poor, dear Alistair. Let me comfort you. Wait.. what was I talking about, again? | | 11:49 am |
And I realized today...
... why I like mackeral (sushi), that fishiest of fish. Because, in the way of smells (and it's conjoined twin, taste) it takes me back to the sea and to watching the boats go through the locks in Seattle, and the fish ladders, and the trips to the aquarium and, and, and.. I think you get the point. It's been a very long time since I lived near the ocean - more than half my life, now. The last time was when I was 18 and moved from Maine to Kansas to go to college. You know, after one too many trips to Kansas (to see grandparents) in July and August (AUGUST, people! Kansas in AUGUST) I was very glad I didn't have to live here. ha ha. it is to laugh. | | 8:05 am |
While I was unemployed I would sleep soundly until 7 or 8. Mind you, there was a certain amount of staying up until 2 involved, but still. Now that I am employed and have a schedule to keep, I am back to waking at around 5:30 for no good goldarn reason again. -.- Not much news here, though. This time around on Dragon Age, though, I found the sixth Black Vial (this morning, in fact, when I wasn't sleeping after 5:30 anyway....) not that I expect that's going to make much difference. But I AM curious what's going to happen with the Urn of Sacred Ashes, since the guard dragon is gone this time. Avalanche, maybe? | | Sunday, November 22nd, 2009 | | 6:57 pm |
Bwahahahah! I killed *spoiler*'s dragon, then the High Dragon and I was all 'RAWR! I R Dragonslayer! I am off to kill the dragon in Orgrimmar Orzammar!" Thinking, you know, that they would be on par. I call the dragon ... *snicker snort guffaw* They are SOOOOooOOOO not. | | Saturday, November 21st, 2009 | | 11:06 am |
More Dragon Age
Anyone else think there's something between the Arlessa Isolde and her brother-in-law, Bann Teagan? I have been through the scenes with them twice now and can't shake the feeling. | | Friday, November 20th, 2009 | | 5:07 pm |
Dragon Age
My goodness, but Zevran talks a lot. At least it's funny. "We... are ridiculously awesome." | | Thursday, November 19th, 2009 | | 9:29 pm |
Unamused
Sure, dwarves in Dragon Age are kind of resistant when it comes to magic and lyrium. I get that. But I am seriously unamused to find my dwarf PC is unable to use the Lyrium Veins in the Fade. Even when shapechanged. Not that a dwarf should even be IN the Fade, mind you. | | 3:08 pm |
I don't know what is really going on here and I hope it's not bad, because I find it hilarious. see more Political Pictures | | 2:39 pm |
Ew.
Smells like someone is autoclaving agar plates. It's not gag-worthy or acrid, but it sure is unpleasant. | | 9:25 am |
OMG, I think I was actually role playing. See, there were just some choices I couldn't make with my first character, even knowing I could go back to a previous save game. I just could not make myself deal with the result, fleeting and unreal as it was. But this second character... she's harder, tougher. She WILL be able to say 'suck it up!' I can even see her letting someone live just long enough to feed him to something else. Two birds with one stone should appeal to her. I mean, why waste a death? | | Tuesday, November 17th, 2009 | | 9:36 pm |
I wonder if the end of Dragon Age wasn't a little rushed. There are certain sentences in the later cut scenes that assume things have happened that I deliberately chose to avoid. Ah, well. That was a fun ride. Now.... do I have the patience to find out how things change with different character choices.... |
