Need to renew my passport (for work, no less). Or do you mean the shipping? Either I am getting gouged, or it's the nature of the material (needing extra insurance or something).

Well, I was curious about both...

I think it cost $17 to ship my passport, too. Total scam, IMO.

Wow. Only $17? That's cheap!

OK, I say that only because it cost us about $300 to get the teenager's here on time last year. The government finished her passport the day before she needed it! FedEx same day courier service on the other hand, is pricey, but IT ROCKS!

I think that was just the shipping. I know I will be paying at least $100 for the passport alone (don't need it fast).

I was talking about just the shipping. We had paid the nearly $100 for the passport about six months previously.

Three. Hundred. Dollars. For. Shipping? :O

I'll be over in the corner muttering incoherently to myself.

$300 for FedEx same day courier service. We applied for her passport in February last year. She needed it for the end of May, so we thought that was plenty of time. Of course, that was right before the great passport panic of 07! We had to call our congressman and have his office harrass the processing agency just to get it finished. They finished it the day before she needed it, but it was in TEXAS! So we paid through the nose to have a courier bring it to us.

I don't know if it's the processing company making MORE money off me, or if UPS charges that much for a LETTER, or if there's extra insurance, since it's going to be an authorized birth certificate.

oh.
UPS eh?
Yep, them's expensive letters.

But for only 5.32 it could be sent certified return receipt.
It's pretty funny when even the government doesn't trust the Post Office to deliver!

Yup. My passport was sent UPS, too, and I got a similar chuckle out of it.

ZOMG, I know. I had to get a new birth certificate for Matt's visa packet, and it was cheaper for me to drive to Topeka than to have it mailed. I'm lucky in that I still/again live in Kansas and could do that.
