Growing up on science fiction, especially short fiction, just HAS to have had it's effect on me.

Let me give you an example. I hadn't read Isaac Asimov's "Eyes Do More Than See" ( http://graphics.stanford.edu/~tolis/toli/other/eyes.html ) in more than 15 years, but I still remembered it in a powerful way. Well enough to remember the 'punch line' (so to speak) without having to look it up.

But look at it. Not only are there suggestions of godhood (energy being making matter in it's own image) but a powerful caution about what you have being precious and being careful what you give up for the sake of what you think you want/need.

Because I am me and I start monologing to imaginary characters when I don't have anything better to think about, I started wondering what effect that story would have on, say, the characters from Dragon Age. The words 'heretic' and 'lunatic' came to mind.

By the way, be very, very grateful I don't try to write fan fic. Srsly. (and I suddenly have an inkling for why I don't read it much....)
