This kit alleges that a person can make a perfect-fit pair of pants if one follows the instructions. First off, the instructions don't tell you how to place the top point of the dart (but I have assumed the darts are all supposed to be the same length and they DO tell me where to put the bottom point, so....)

But now, the instructions and the model pictures DON'T AGREE. The instruction say to find your front rise measurement on a grid, but the PICTURE uses the front rise minus one inch. If I follow the directions, the top line of the front of the pants is a decided diagonal, but if I take that one inch out, it's more reasonable.

I am not amused.

Sounds like you're figuring it out. Other than the dart issue, how is it working (says the woman who has linen and wants pants).

Well, the fly placket is beyond my understanding right now and I want side pockets so a side zipper is out. That leaves a back zipper or elastic. :| I can't quite decide which of those I want to do. clevermanka says that back zippers are the way to go, but I am not sure how to do those - all my back zippers (on skirts and such) end up digging into the small of my back.

If the back zip bugs you too much, just put it in as a size zip. They go in like any other invisible or placket zipper.

FLY ZIPS ARE TEH DEBBIL.

So, if I go with the back zipper (because dressy pants SO shouldn't be elastic-waisted) do I put in a button on the waistband? A hook and eye? Eliminate the waistband?

I put the zipper in so it stops at the waistband and a hook and eye to close the top.
