Is 'baited breath' a new internet meme, or is it just that most people didn't get the memorable 'fish breath' speech in school?

it's used too often, it's supposed to be bated breath (I think) but one says it and (because of Jim) I go, 'ooh, worms on your tongue again?"

I think it's just that most people are not read well and too used to using phrases they don't understand. Ugh.

Like people who type "wallah!" They probably have no clue it's actually French and not spelled with a w. Or an h or double-l. And only one a. *sigh*

Aaaaand, now I can't remember how to spell it. LOL Voila? Eh, French.

Then there's 'tough road to hoe' ('row'! one hoes a row! We are way too far from the farm.), or 'for all intense purposes' (which actually loses an entire syllable from the original 'for all intents and purposes') and others I know have made me wince, but I have managed to forget.
