What is it about grandfathers and November? I lost both my grandfathers in November - Grandpa Gitchell 10 days after my 20th birthday, and Grandpa O'Halloran the day before Thanksgiving after my 26th birthday. Now I have seen two announcements of (great) grandfathers dying in the last few days.

Grandparents and holidays

Curiously, both my wife and I lost our fathers in December: Her father on the 15th about 7 years before we met; and my father on Christmas Eve, which also happened to be our first anniversary. Her dad died of a massive heart attack and she and her mother found his body. My dad died at home of "metastatic cancer of the liver, pancreas, and adrenal glands". My wife's father was in his 60's and my dad was 72.

December could be a sad time for our families, but we had our family traditions and "rituals" to fall back on to get us through the rough times.

My family likes to die during holidays/special occasions

My great grandfather on his birthday
My great grandmother on my brother's graduation day
My grandfather contracted meningitis Christmas night, died on New Year's Day and we buried him on his birthday -- worst holiday ever

Although this is Mac's family, his last two family deaths that I have attended
His stepmom during my sister's birthday weekend
His grandfather will be buried on Friday, with visitation on Thanksgiving
