I had one particular personal demon (not even a very big one, but it was trying to be one, and was very persistant) tormenting me with ugly possible scenarios for a little bit of data I had. Round and round it went, and I couldn't find a good enough reason for that data that would defeat the demon. It ended up being the linchpin on which the rest of the stress rested. If it hadn't been for that, the client issues wouldn't have bothered me much at all.
But it was rather like some puzzles in computer games. I was going over and over the same space, looking for what I hoped was the last piece of the puzzle, but it just wasn't to be found. Was it even there? Was I looking in the right place? Was this a dead-end quest? FUCK, this is frustrating!
But all it took was someone bringing a new perspective. Like he pointed out that there was a turning I had never seen before, and, voila, the demon was GONE. I just couldn't find the way myself.
Without the linchpin, and with some sympathetic and intelligent listening, the whole stress load just went away.
Thank all that is good for insightful, caring friends!
