*heavy sigh*
The artificial whalebone that was sent on Saturday (ordered more than a week ago) arrived today. Contrary to the website description, it is 3/8 inch wide, NOT 1/2 inch wide, so all my 5/8 inch wide, hand-stiched boning channels are too damn wide. I do not feel like doing all the hand sewing again anytime soon, so I guess I will call the hand-sewing 'basting to keep the layers from shifting' and machine sew the channels. Booger.

Same package held the wooden busk, but it's regency straight, not Elizabethan tapered, darn it. I am pretty sure it will still work. I am NOT sure it's not pine, rather than hardwood however, which worries me.

Ghetto! Thats so lame. :(

I'm sure it will still look awesome. Very frustrating, though. Pictures when you're done?

I do plan to have pictures. And likely solicit suggestions for skirt colors, too.

What fabrics are you using for the corset?

It's a black and silvery-tan brocade with a kind of bamboo motif. (or plant-like of some kind... strange how I forget.)

OK, what wood does it need to be made from? What are the dimensions? I've got some scrap white oak and a limited ability to resaw it.

*deletes what she had typed* Okay, my busk is actually 14 inches long, which means I COULD have ordered another one from www.corsetmaking.com. oof.
I think I will. This regency one will likely get used soon enough - I keep thinking about making a regency corset.

But, since you asked: My Elizabethan busk is 14 inches long, 3/4 inchest wide at the bottom and 1 3/4 inches wide at the top. The bottom is rounded, as are the top corners. It's never more than 1/4 inch thick, but there is a lot of beveling involved. I think it might be better to buy it pre-cut. I am pretty sure www.corsetmaking.com mentioned 'tapered'.

Can't ya wrap the bone in felt or something to make up the space? Like using a shim.

While that likely has merit, it would be the absolute bitch to slip into the bone pocket. ;)
