OMG!
The whole time I looked at these pictures from laracorsets addition to her antique corset collection, the only thing I could think was "oh, my god!" Over, and over, and over, with each new picture.

Thank you! I see my sharing of the collection is working. It's all part of my evil plan to conquer the world and make everyone love antique corsets!

But then you will have to spend MORE money to buy new additions for your collection at auction!

aiee.
But then, I see that same in yours too. Even with the corsets, I just don't have that waist thing.

Some of those I just don't see how anyone could be shaped like that, but maybe it's just that they always wore corsets. Such a tiny, tiny torso (not just waist - tiny up to the bust, you notice?) and huge bust and hips, comparatively speaking.

As for 'that waist thing' I don't think the butterfly corset is a good corset to judge by - it had VERY little different between waist and hips. I had to do some extraordinary things with the pattern to get anything like the waist differential I wanted/expected.

I think we're all built *sturdier* these days... it seems all the Victorian clothing I've seen is so teeny through the shoulders too.

My mum was a 20-21 inch waist naturally in the 50s. She was only 5'2", but she had the most amazing wasp-waist. She also hardly ate growing up, not from dieting, but rationing and lack of food. Maybe her guts actually got bigger from finally getting good nutrition, lol.
I just don't have much of a waist/hip ratio at all. And it's getting worse, haha!

*gulp* Is she the woman they featured in the Pitch a few years ago?
I'd love to do that, but not sure it would work with my job right now.

Le Wow!

Of course, they were paying seamstresses slave wages to make most of those. Beautiful things, though.
