As I left work yesterday, I reflected on the fact that it looked and felt like Autumn to me. The leaves are turning to fire and falling, the air was cool and there was moisture in it.

But then I hit I-435... in the rain... lord, can people just not drive in the rain, or something? What normally takes me 15 minutes took 35. And I don't think it was simply the fact that I was leaving work an hour later than usual, although I am sure that had an effect.

WoW was... interesting last night. stormknight and I got into a pick up group for Wailing Cavern that said it NEEDED a tank (I was playing my warrior.). I get in the group to find that it already contained a druid (that seemed to like his Cat form.) and two hunters (pets work great as tanks). Um.... And they aren't terribly communicative. The only time I saw the leader say anything was unintelligible stuff that must have been about a duel - that he was watching.

Hardy any communtication in the instance. Everyone but I am a skinner and they all want the scales. They can't seem to understand that we need to pick a target, because I just can't hold aggro past anyone else's attacks unless it's the mob I am attacking (there must be a way. I will have to review the talents and skills open to me). But that's okay, since we had FOUR tanks. I guess.

We were halfway round the first major room of the instance when one hunter leaves (or was booted....) When we got fully around the first room, I got booted. Where upon stormknight leaves, too. We work as a team, after all. That left two in the instance. I do hope they had fun... or something.

I don't know if the leader was a kid, like my son, who is clueless about grouping and instances (and none to quick to read chat and even slower to respond) or a fully-knowing prick.

What-ever, I suppose I had to fall into a bad grouping some time. Glad it took so long.

We still had an hour until my usual sign off time, so we killed another quest in the Barrens. For a change, stormknight's character got all the quest items first, and it was my character with the slower luck.

Oh, yeah. And I totally embarassed myself by sending a message meant for family chat to the Guild Recruitment channel. Damn that for messing with my chat channel numbers. All my characters are in a guild now, which fixes that problem.

As for holding Aggro on multiple targets... Cleave works. As does Thunderclap. (Saw you doing TC, and was glad for it.) Another thing jsut to get as much aggro as possible on as many targets is to switch targets and pop a Sunder Armor onto them in succession.

Also, Defensive Stance... and for Instances or situations where you know you'll be tanking, we should get a 1H weapon and a Shield.

We were losing aggro control last night because pretty much everyone was picking a different target, flooding as much as possible into that target, then relying on me to heal their asses, which brought aggro on me. (Note: I kept most of my healing focused on you, since you were actually doing the job you were designed to do.)

That... and all those gmps were fucknuts. One Hunter was spamming Party chat to buy Deviant Scales, the other Hunter was Needing on BoP items that weren't designed for hunters, and the Druid was trying to ninja everything green (Thankfully, she was getting ahead of herself and forgetting I was around to counter-need.)

Crites, that was pain. It makes the 10 minute SM run we tried on Sunday look normal.

Cleave! I will remember that. I will! (I only just got it. Going to take a bit).

As for Defensive stance... yeah, remembered THAT at about 6:10 this morning. :p

But... I have to give up my 2H'er? *cry*. If I am going to use something in instances. it's best I make it my normal weapon choice, since that's the only way to keep it trained up.

Oh, and remind me I mean to make myself weapons? I planned to make the next-up 2H sword, but forgot and 'wasted' all my bronze on bracers (that increased my skill 4 points instead of the one for the sword....)

Here is why you should do sword-and-board in Instances (And one reason outside of instances)

As a tank, you are there to hold aggro and stay alive once that aggro is achieved. Part of that damage mitigation is provided by the Shield. The less a healer has to heal you, the better you hold Aggro.

As for outside of an instance, why would you want to go sword (Or mace-... or axe-) and board? Shield-Bash. It interrupts spell-casting and provides a lesser-silence effect on that spell caster.

2H is fine, but harder to hold aggro with because of the time between swings.

What we'll need to work on is getting you Tactical Mastery at some point so that you can Stance-Dance (Switch betwee Battle and Defensive and back while tanking). But by the time that would be necessary, it'll be expansion, and then it's time to re-spec anyways. :o)
