Naka-Kon was great and reminded me that cons are fun. This is a good thing. I also learned two things about myself. One, I can successfully perform crowd control (at least with calm crowds) and I can stand up on a stage in front of hundreds of people and speak without a script (and was told I did well, too.)
queza7 did a fabulous job leading the presenting of prizes on Sunday, and totally deserves the Masters prize she got for her Chi (from Chobits) costume. (you can see a picture from verminiusrex here ) She hand painted the flowers and hand embroidered the details on the bodice.
Our third Hall costume judge made for a wicked Vash the Stampede. He was also cute enough to make me vaguely regret his youth and taken-ness. The former makes the latter just as well. But auroraceleste and I agree that he, so tall and thin, would make a wonderful Abel/Cain from Trinity Blood.... now, if either of us had time to make him the costume and try to talk him into joining our group for Costume Con.... He DID make his own Vash costume, actually, so..... hmmmmmm.
Speaking of auroraceleste, when I walked into her panel on Saturday morning, it was only a passing familiarity with this costume that allowed me to identify her. I THINK I would have known who she was when she started speaking, but..... I felt better when I heard the judge sitting next to her here (in blue) didn't recognize her the next day.
It was good to have verminiusrex occasional company while I was riding herd on the entries for pre-judging for the costume contest and even better to have both him and auroraceleste's company at dinner that evening. Much costuming talk was had.
AND - There were so many FABULOUS costumes! This one blew me away completely and I was gratified when the judges of the (non-hall) Costume Contest awarded her the big prize. You can't see the long dragon=like tail that dragged behind her, with the long train of the gown covering it for half the floor length, but it was very definitely there. And that's really just a taste of the wonderful costumes. I saw VERY FEW of what I would call 'sub-par' costumes on display. This made judging the Hall Costumes both days VERY HARD. Very hard. And there were at least two people that I felt SHOULD have gotten something, but we just couldn't justify making up more awards for the number of entries we got. Too many, and they lose meaning.
Oh, and drinking hard cider while watching the English version of Ghost Stories is freaking HILARIOUS. I think it would have been just as funny sober, too. But the BEST was drinking hard cider while watching a couple episodes of some hentai and giving it the MST3000 treatment with the others in the room. And, ooooh, boy, did it deserve it! About half way through the second episode both auroraceleste and I realized the alcohol was doing a number on our bladders and, besides, it was midnight and maybe we should get some sleep.
Damn, but I had managed to forget alcohol's effect on my ability to sleep. Oh, well.
Okay, I think I am done now.
Um... malinear, would it be incredibly stupid (or even naive) of me to offer myself as a target for next year's Cream the Cosplayer? Someone would have to tell me which hated character to make, but.... it just seems like some good, (not) clean fun.
