Since LJ was sold to a Russian Company over the weekend.. this isn't all that surprising.

No reason to worry about it, I don't think it's because of LJ's purchase-- see my reply below.

I doubt the new owners would turn over info or immediately start heavy spamming, given that they're likely going to be spending the next 12 months trying to ingratiate themselves to their new non-Russian customers through various means in order to keep subscribers around. It would be a seriously bad PR faux pas, and given the amount of money they likely paid, I'm sure they've got someone paid well in house to tell them that would be a bad marketing choice.

More likely, someone ran across her addy somewhere, or she gave it to a company that sold it, and it's been added to one of those massive address list CDs/DVDs that near anyone can buy for cheap. Russian spammers aren't exactly a new thing.

I'd chalk it up as a coincidence, at most.

That was my thought too, though I said it in jest. :)

Nor have I. It was a (possibly poor) joke.

Not a poor joke, but given the amount of jumping to conclusions I've seen a lot of people make over the buyout, I thought it would be a good idea to put that out there.

I had a few weeks of Russian spam earlier this year. I don't think it's connected to the turnover.
