1 am. Phone rings. Panic sets in (as my son has been away on vacation with his dad). Recorded voice tells me my KU Credit Union account has been suspended. Suddenly wish it wasn't a recording, as then the person on the other side could have heard the several crashes as I failed to manage to hang up the phone properly.

That HAD to be a phishing call, as, well, Hello? 1 am? and I don't have a KUCU account.

Hmmm. YOu know that if you get the info from calls like this, you can take them to small claims court for violating the FCC rules on sales calls.
But then, I'd imagine weaseling the info out of them would be difficult.

1 am, that really really really sucks.

Yep, we got the same call, as did at least one other person on my flist.

Many locals and students have received emails with the same message. It's all a scam.

We got one, too. 11 PM, which I thought was bad enough.

We got a call too, 11:30 p.m. We never answer the phone though, we always let the answering machine pick up and then we answer if it's someone we want to talk to, so we played it back several times. I wonder how phishers like that can be stopped, since unlike emails they can't be forwarded to the company to be traced. And, why KU Credit Union so much lately? My email accounts at both my last and current jobs have received several.

Ditto fireguarder's recent experience with a zillion spam emails from fake KU Credit Union accounts.

And the calls have made the local news.
