I wish I could show you some of the shoes in this Shoe-a-Day calendar. They pull from all over the place, and all over time, when they can. I love the really old ones best - you can see they are hand stitched! omg!
Today's looks like something Marie Antoinette could have worn. Yellow silk satin body, with ruffles of baby blue and pink right at the top of the foot, and these little inset panels (white background) of exquisite embroidiery. That's all wonderful, of course, but the construction of the shoe itself is facinating. It looks like a basic ballet-type flat (but with a pointed toe) that just got a kitten heel tacked on to it. Only the heel and the tip of the toe touch the ground.
