More vultures today. And giant flies. Lots of giant flies. All of them an inch long or more. *shudder* A fly like that (in Australia, though) bit me once and it hurt like hell.

Today I was stymied by locked gates. Lots of locked gates. I guess those people REALLY, REALLY don't want visitors.

Oh, and I called an owner today (his number was in the yard, after all) and got chewed out. Seems he's really tired of the Census calling him. And someone called him yesterday.... WTF? That, I don't understand at all.

And, to top it off, I don't have much to show for today, since The Powers That Be decided we have to knock on all doors twice before finding a proxy. Lots of doors knocked on (or locked gates glared at) but not many questionaires ready to be turned in.

It is also bloody hot. Thank goodness my car's air conditioner is working again.

Teh giant flies are horseflies

And they DO hurt like hell when they bite. On the better hand, they're easy to see/avoid/brush away before they get a fix on you. But I've seen stock drive frantic by clouds of them (horses and cattle).

the one thing I have going for me is that my skin is sensitive to touch (i'm maximal ticklish) and I can feel an insect touching down on me if it's bigger than a fruit fly. (I can feel mosquitos, just usually can't get to them to shoo quick enough.)

It's got it's ups and downs, but I am finding I am enjoying driving around the countryside. And most people are helpful and friendly. Some are only one or the other and very, very few are neither.
