Thank goodness, Castle is back to being funny. What WERE they thinking with that unrelievedly dramatic two-parter, anyway?

Also, how should I prepare a pineapple? Do I cut it in slices and peel the slices? Cut it in half and scoop it out like a cantalope? (What do you mean that's not how one eats a cantalope? Sure it is! Don't judge me!) I only just realized I have never done anything with a fresh pineapple. Now, if it were a mango, I would be all over that like white on rice, but this spiky, football-shaped thing... not so sure.

Don't feel bad, you should hear my story about the first time I ever ate artichoke. Talk about embarrassing!

With a pineapple, it's easiest to slice off the outside shell in strips first. The cut the whole thing into quarters vertically; that makes it easier to then cut the center off each quarter (or you can core it like an apple if you have the right gadget, but who does?)

Then you can slice it however you wanna from there.

Skin off the nasty skin and top. You can either core it (the core is nasty and fibrous) and cut into rings, or cut it into long wedges, cut the core off and cut into chunks. The second method is what I usually do because as far as I can tell, coring requires special tools.

I like pineapple core, too, so I slice off the outside and then slice up the inside into discs for eating.

Peel first--it's rather messy but worth it. Then cut--I normally do wedges. NO pineapple corer in my kitchen either, so I just slice off the hard stuff.
